Job Description
Plumber - Various Shifts - Weekends/Holidays

The Plumber performs routine maintenance on all plumbing equipment in the Hospital complex. The plumber also fits valves, couplings and other specified parts and fittings to pipe sections by screwing, bolting or soldering. Attaches pipe assemblies to walls or ceilings with brackets or hangers. Installs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, toilets, showers, medical gas equipment, oxygen and suction systems etc., and connects them to outlet and inlet pipes. Repairs plumbing fixtures, including worn washers, valves, etc. Solders and caulks leaks and broken pipes. Constructs minor metal work, such as strainers, shelves and chart locks. Silver-solders and keeps all kitchen equipment in working orders. May be required to perform Tinsmith work as necessary. Performs routine preventive maintenance on all plumbing equipment. Maintains Mechanical Rooms. Cooperates with team members to resolve maintenance problems within shop or area in an efficient and timely manner.

Various shifts are available. The shifts could be as follows:

Day: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Evening: 4:00 pm to 12:00 am

Night: 12:00 am to 8:00 am

This is a full time position, located at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Required Criteria
• High School Degree or GED
• Three to five years’ experience in plumbing. Experienced in plumbing trade and basic working knowledge of all other trades
• Must be available for weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, emergencies and scheduled work/outages
• Must adhere to and follow shift coverage procedures

Preferred Criteria
• Valid and current driver’s license
• New York City Certificate of Fitness for Compressed Gases must be obtained within first year
• ASSE 6040 Medical Gas Systems Maintainer within 6 months of hire
• IX9 Brazer Certification
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness G-17 Supervision of Medical Gases Bulk O2/NO2 within 6 months of hire
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness F-01 Fire Guard within 6 months of hire
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness G-60 Torch Operations within 6 months of hire
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-12 Sprinkler Systems within 6 months of hire
