Job Description
Job Summary:

The Welding Engineer is responsible for planning, developing, qualifying, and monitoring welding procedures and ensuring compliance with applicable codes such as ASME Sec VIII Div-1 and IEN SO standards. The role focuses on controlling welding quality, minimizing RT & UT repairs, improving welder performance, and ensuring adherence to WPS and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Welding Procedure & Qualification
Preparation and qualification of WPS, PQR, and WPQ as per ASME Sec IX & EN ISO 15614-1, EN ISO 9606-1. Ensure welding activities comply with ASME Sec VIII Div-1, AD-2000 HP0 client specifications, and approved ITP. Review and approval of welding parameters before job execution. Control of welding consumables as per WPS and project requirements. Provide technical support to fabrication team for shell, dish end, nozzle, and structural welding.Monitor welding parameters (current, voltage, travel speed, heat input). Ensure correct selection of welding consumables (SMAW, SAW, GTAW, GMAW). Ensure proper joint fit-up and weld preparation before welding. Monitor RT & UT repair percentage and implement corrective actions. Analyze weld defects and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Coordinate with NDT team for RT, UT, PT, MT inspections. Ensure welder-wise welding data and repair tracking is maintained. Conduct welder qualification tests (WQT). Maintain welder performance records. Identify high-repair welders and arrange retraining. Ensure only qualified welders perform welding as per WPS. Monitor welding consumable storage (oven control, baking temperature). Ensure electrode issue control and traceability. Monitor SAW wire & flux condition and handling. Ensure calibration of welding machines. Prepare welding documentation dossier. Maintain welding log, weld map, and traceability records. Review drawings for welding requirements. Participate in internal and external audits. Implement action plans to reduce RT/UT repair. Conduct training for welders and supervisors. Develop best practices to improve productivity and weld quality.

Required Qualifications:
BE / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. CSWIP /CWI certification (Advantage). Minimum 3–8 years experience in pressure vessel / heavy fabrication industry. Strong knowledge of ASME Sec VIII, Sec IX, and NDT processes.

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of SMAW, SAW, GTAW, GMAW processes. Understanding of weld defects and prevention. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and WPS. Experience in RT, UT, PT, MT coordination. Knowledge of heat treatment (PWHT).

Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Leadership and team coordination ability. Good communication skills. Ability to handle shop floor quality issues.
