Summary:

This position is responsible for the welding and fabrication of parts and products to specifications identified in job order documentation. This position is a nightshift position however, may involve various shifts/days as well as, and overtime hours depending on the scope of work and plant activity. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
• Perform production welding in accordance with Variperm Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), including post weld heat treatment.
• Operate semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse various types of steel using GMAW process, GMAW - pulse (2FR).
• Reading and understanding blueprints and drawings.
• Take and/or read measurements to plan layout.
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
• Set up components for welding according to specifications.
• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
• Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
• Directing and providing instructions to labourers as needed.
• Ensuring proper use and care of equipment.
• Ensuring all welding equipment is in proper working order and maintained.
• Maintain and adhere to housekeeping practices to ensure work areas are clean and safe.
• Assist in other plant operations as needed.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures including HSE and Quality.
• Active participation in FET’s Health, Safety and Environment program including training and safety meetings as required.
• Perform quality control inspections as necessary.
• The ability to lift to 45lbs independently.
• Other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge
• Capable of working in a team environment as well as independently.
• Mechanically inclined and comfortable in a Manufacturing environment.
• Strong welding skills in Semi-automatic GMAW process.
• Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
• Knowledge of oilfield tubulars and threads.
• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
• Overhead crane and rigging.
• Good verbal and written English skills.
• Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawing, job order documentation, and weld procedure specifications.
• Able to follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English.
• Grade 12 basic math skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Dedicated to continuous improvement.

Education
• Grade 12 or GED or equivalent education.
• Registered Apprentice Welder not required, but preferred.

Experience
• Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
• Overhead crane experience considered an asset.
• 3+ years of welding experience required.
