Job Title: Security Professional - Shelter Operations
Location: Mississauga, ON
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay Rate: $19.00 per hour
Shift: Days - 7am to 7pm | 7PM to 7AM - Continental Rotational schedule

Overview

Allied Universal® is seeking experienced Security Professional - Operations to provide security services at a community shelter environment in Mississauga, Ontario. This role requires individuals who have prior experience working in shelters or similar high-interaction environments, supporting vulnerable populations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong de-escalation skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting, and professionalism when managing challenging behaviors. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and controlled environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities
• Access Control & Monitoring
• Control and monitor access to the facility
• Verify identification, manage entry logs, and ensure only authorized individuals enter the shelter
• De-escalation & Conflict Management
• Respond to behavioral incidents involving shelter residents or visitors
• Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches
• Maintain calm, professional conduct in high-stress or emotionally charged situations
• Safety & Security Patrols
• Conduct routine patrols of the interior and exterior of the facility
• Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or policy violations
• Secure doors, exits, and restricted areas
• Emergency Response
• Respond to medical, fire, security, or behavioral emergencies
• Assist staff during evacuations or critical incidents
• Follow site-specific emergency and incident response protocols
• Incident Documentation
• Complete detailed and accurate incident reports
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, shelter staff, and emergency services when required
• Collaboration with Shelter Staff
• Work closely with shelter staff to support daily operations
• Provide security support during resident interactions, intakes, and high-risk situations

Key Qualifications
• Minimum 1–2 years of security experience in a shelter, supportive housing, or similar environment
• Proven experience working with vulnerable populations
• Strong verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and make sound decisions under pressure
• Excellent communication and observation skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism, empathy, and authority simultaneously

Minimum Qualifications
• Valid Ontario Security Guard License
• First Aid & CPR Certification
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience)
• Legally eligible to work in Canada (up to 40 hours per week)
