Position Summary

Kristian Electric is seeking a
Journeyman Welder / CWB Inspector
to join our Edmonton branch. This role involves working in both our fabrication shop and field environments, supporting the manufacturing and installation of overhead cranes and hoist systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality welding and fabrication work, while supporting installation crews and ensuring all work meets applicable standards and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Fabrication & Welding
• Perform welding, fitting, cutting, and assembly of overhead crane components
• Execute work in accordance with engineered drawings and fabrication blueprints
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and quality control

Installation Support
• Assist with on-site installation of cranes, runways, and structural components
• Align and fit equipment in accordance with Canadian standards and engineering specifications
• Use alignment and rigging equipment safely and effectively

Inspection & Quality
• Interpret welding symbols and engineered drawings accurately
• Ensure all work meets CWB and company quality standards
• Support inspection processes where applicable

General Duties
• Support special projects and shop requirements as needed
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Work collaboratively with shop and field teams to meet project timelines

Core Competencies
• Certified Journeyman Welder with strong fabrication experience
• Proficient in MCAW, FCAW, and SMAW (all positions)
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of fabrication techniques
• Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and welding symbols
• Experience with rigging and overhead crane operations considered an asset
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to plan work, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Safety-focused with sound decision-making skills
• Effective communicator with strong teamwork and leadership abilities

CWB Welding Inspector certification is considered a strong asset.

Education & Certification Requirements
• Certified Journeyman Welder
• CWB Certification:
• FCAW/MCAW – Flat
• SMAW – Overhead
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Willingness to obtain CWB Welder Supervisor qualification

Experience & Skills
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience as a Journeyman Welder
• Experience operating forklifts (certification preferred)
• Experience with overhead cranes considered an asset
• Experience with handheld plasma cutting
• Valid driver’s licence with a clean driver’s abstract

Working Conditions
• Combination of shop and field work environments
• Physical role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs
• Steel-toed footwear required
• PPE provided as needed
