The Role: Electrician

The purpose of this role is to manage the full lifecycle of electrical projects, including initial installation and wiring of control panels. It contributes to the business by ensuring the commissioning of automated systems and providing ongoing field service support. The main focus areas involve a blend of electrical expertise and a strong understanding of control circuitry and automation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
• Demonstrate 3–5 years of post-apprenticeship experience, preferably in an industrial automation or manufacturing environment.
• Install, wire, and terminate complex electrical control panels and distribution boards according to schematic drawings.
• Perform site installations including cable tray layouts, conduit installation, and wire pulling for industrial and commercial environments.
• Assist engineers in the cold and hot commissioning of new plants, machinery, and automated systems.
• Perform I/O testing to ensure field devices are communicating correctly with PLCs and SCADA systems.
• Provide rapid-response troubleshooting and fault finding for clients experiencing electrical failures or automation glitches.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on LV/MV switchgear and control systems.
• Ensure all installations comply with SANS 10142-1 standards.

Desired Experience & Qualification

About You
• Valid Red Seal Trade Test Certificate (Electrician).
• Valid Code 8 Driver’s License (essential).
• Proficiency in reading electrical circuit diagrams, logic drawings, and P&IDs.
• Experience with VSDs (Variable Speed Drives) and Soft Starters.
• Basic understanding of PLC hardware such as Siemens, Schneider, or Allen-Bradley.
• Strong problem-solving skills under pressure.
• Excellent communication skills for client-facing service calls.
• Willingness to travel.
