As per the Department of Employment and Labour, the minimum wage for security guards in South Africa is R30.50 per hour as of 1 March 2026. Security guards working more than 45 hours per week receive 1.5 times the hourly rate for overtime. This rate applies uniformly across all provinces under the National Minimum Wage Act.

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, applicants for security guard roles must have completed Grade 10 and hold a valid Grade E PSIRA certificate obtained after 21 days of training. At least 6 months of prior experience in a registered security firm is required for Grade D or higher positions as of 2026.

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, security guards in South Africa are limited to 45 ordinary hours per week with a maximum of 10 hours overtime. Employees receive 15 days of paid annual leave after 12 months of service and 6 weeks of paid sick leave over a 3-year cycle starting 1 January 2026.

As per the Department of Employment and Labour, applicants must submit a certified ID copy, PSIRA registration certificate, Grade 10 certificate, and a valid bank statement dated within 3 months as of 2026. A police clearance certificate issued no earlier than 6 months prior is also mandatory for all applications.
