Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, 7405

Employment Type: Probationary Permanent, Full-Time

Working Hours: Monday to Friday (00h00 – 09h00), alternate Saturdays (00h00 – 09h00)

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Packing Supervisor to oversee daily packhouse operations in a fast-paced fresh produce environment. The successful candidate will ensure efficient packing, strict adherence to food safety standards, accurate order fulfilment, and timely dispatch of all routes.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management
• Oversee shift commencement and coordinate daily packing activities
• Allocate delivery sheets and manage packer workflow
• Prioritise routes based on delivery schedules
• Monitor packing progress and resolve delays

Quality & Compliance
• Ensure full compliance with Food and Health Safety Standards
• Enforce PPE, hygiene, and sanitisation protocols
• Conduct regular quality and accuracy, during packing
• Ensure FIFO (First-In, First-Out) stock rotation is maintained

Stock & Shortage Control
• Monitor stock quality and availability
• Investigate and report shortages
• Liaise with procurement and management regarding stock issues
• Ensure all shortages are addressed before dispatch

Labeling & Documentation
• Oversee accurate label printing (name of the product, date & batch verification)
• Ensure correct product labeling and placement
• Maintain proper record keeping of packing and dispatch documentation

Dispatch Coordination
• Supervise loading of vehicles according to route priority with operations manager
• Confirm all trucks depart on schedule
• Communicate shortages and updates to management

Team Leadership
• Brief and guide packers on daily requirements
• Assign general assistants for loading
• Ensure accountability and productivity across the team

Housekeeping & Preparation
• Oversee cleaning and sanitation of packhouse
• Ensure proper storage of stock in cold rooms
• Prepare for next-day operations (packaging & labels)

Minimum Requirements:
• Matric (Grade 12)
• Diploma or relevant qualification in Food Safety, Food Technology, or related field (Advantageous)
• Experience in a packing, warehouse, or fresh produce environment
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
• Good leadership and communication skills
• Ability to work night shifts and under pressure
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English
