Role Description

The Structural Welder / Fitter Combo is responsible for fabricating, fitting, and welding structural steel components and skids according to shop drawings, specifications, and industry standards. This role combines both fitting and welding responsibilities, requiring the ability to accurately lay out materials, prepare components, perform proper fit-up, and complete high-quality welds using MIG and Flux Core processes. The position requires strong blueprint reading skills, the ability to maintain tight tolerances, and experience operating common fabrication shop equipment and tools.

Requirements:
• Must have own basic hand tools
• Must have steel-toed boots
• High School Diploma or GED
• 3+ years of experience in structural steel fitting and welding
• Certified welder preferred
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, and specifications
• Ability to read a tape measure and ruler to 1/16 inch
• Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and whole numbers
• Knowledge of fabrication shop tools, equipment, and procedures
• Familiarity with OSHA and welding safety requirements
• Ability to weld to AWS D1.1 code
• Must pass weld test using MIG / Flux Core on 1" plate in the 3G open root

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Fabricate and weld structural steel skids and components using drawings, specifications, and industry standards
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine proper fit-up and welding processes
• Perform layout, cutting, burning, and preparation of steel components for welding
• Measure materials accurately and maintain strict tolerances
• Weld carbon steel using MIG and Flux Core processes
• Use portable hand, electric, and air-powered tools including grinders, drills, and band saws
• Operate welding machines, carbon arc gougers, flame cutting torches, plasma torches, and pipe bevelers
• Operate stationary shop equipment such as bench grinders, iron workers, drill presses, band saws, and chop saws
• Safely operate lifting equipment including overhead cranes and jib cranes and assist with rigging materials and components
• Work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Communicate with coworkers to solve technical issues and improve workflow
• Report job or safety issues to the line supervisor
• Follow company safety policies and OSHA standards
• Assist with training and development of other employees when needed
• Participate in product development and shop process improvements
• Occasionally assist as a backup Lead when required
• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to frequently lift materials up to 30 lbs
• Ability to work in a manufacturing / fabrication shop environment
• Use required safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots
