Job Overview:

The Porter will play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of Chama Mama ensuring a pleasant and hygienic dining environment for our guests and a functional workspace for our staff. The ideal candidate will have excellent cleaning and organizational skills, who works diligently and has a strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

● Perform general cleaning duties in the kitchen, dining area, restrooms, and other areas as required.

● Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, and pans using dishwashers or by hand.

● Maintain cleanliness of kitchen surfaces and equipment

● Assist in the deep cleaning of the restaurant as scheduled.

● Assist kitchen staff with food preparation tasks as needed, such as peeling, cutting, and cleaning produce.

● Help in receiving and storing food and kitchen supplies.

● Responsible for the removal of trash and recycling from the kitchen and dining area

● Ensure waste is correctly sorted and disposed of according to Chama Mama policies and local regulations.

● Restock dining areas and restrooms with necessary supplies such as napkins, toilet paper, and hand soap.

● Perform general cleaning duties in the kitchen, dining area, restrooms, and other areas as required including a weekly deep clean of the ice machine.

● Ensure kitchen staff have the necessary tools and equipment readily available.

● Adhere to all health and safety regulations.

● Report any maintenance or hazard issues to the management immediately.

Qualifications

● Previous experience as a Porter in a restaurant, cafe, or hotel

● Good physical condition and stamina

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

● Excellent time management and multitasking skills

● Basic knowledge of cleaning products and safe handling practices

● Ability to follow instructions and operate standard cleaning equipment.

● Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends and evenings.

● Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.

● Ability to lift at least 50 pounds or more.

● Ability to frequently move around the kitchen including reaching and bending.

● Ability to lift and carry heavy items such as pots, pans, bulk food items.

● Ability to work in a hot or humid environment at certain times.
