Position Title: Security Guard Department: Security
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Security Supervisor

Employment Status: Full-Time

Position Status: Essential

The Security Guard is responsible for providing security to the facility and for ensuring that all residents are observing facility rules. Must have a valid NYS Security Guard License, NYS Fire Guard Certification (F02), and First Aid & CPR Training.
• Helps ensure a secure and functional environment for the residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers
• Participates in fire drills as an active member of the fire brigade
• Conducts monthly Fire Safety/Fire Extinguisher inspections as necessary
• Helps with emergency evacuations
• Maintains daily log, visitor and resident daily and nightly sign-in logs, and other records in an accurate timely manner
• Responds to crisis situations using nonphysical methods and follows Home/Life protocol by deciding what actions are needed, informing supervisor of actions taken, and following up as needed through log book, written note, or telephone conversation
• Acquires an understanding of building features and potential problems
• Patrols the interior/exterior of building, surrounding perimeter, and client dormitories, reporting observations to supervisor
• Continuously observes all residents and develops the ability to recognize signs of substance abuse, child abuse, and criminal activity and immediately advises the appropriate staff and works with the facility team to conduct investigations, as appropriate
• Monitors CCTV system, immediately reports to supervisor activities that violate safety and security protocols, and logs observations
• Must report Priority One incidents to Director of Security and Program Director within 30 minutes of occurrence
• In the event of an emergency, Essential Employees are required to report to work as scheduled
• Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based upon assessment of company needs
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Valid NYS Security License and Fire Guard Certification (F02) required
• Two to three (2-3) years of security experience preferred
• Must complete DHS 40 hour training within 1 week of employment
• Must be able to make clear decisions and handle situations fairly
• Must be able to interact effectively with the facility staff and client population
• Must be able to work well under pressure and during stressful situations
• Must be willing and able to be certified in First Aid/CPR
• Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
• Must be able to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing)
• Must be willing and able to remain at post beyond regularly scheduled hours for appropriate relief, if necessary
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as run, lift at least 50lbs etc.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
