THIS IS A BID POSITION

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Chicago Park District and the Service Employees International Union Local 130. Pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement, the District will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants. The District is assembling a list of qualified candidates for this position that will be considered should the position not be filled with internal eligible applicants.

Title: Plumber Foreman

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under general supervision, directs a crew of workers responsible for the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of water, waste and vent pipes, plumbing fixtures and accessories. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
β€’ Supervises a crew of workers engaged in plumbing work for the Park District.
β€’ Directs crews work in accordance with prescribed plumbing plans and specifications.
β€’ Supervises the installation and repair of the following types of fixtures: fountains, water closets, kitchen sinks, lavatories, service sinks, showers, wash basins, urinals.
β€’ Supervises the installation, repair or replacement of fittings and valves using the following equipment: tubing cutter, pipe cutter, torches, plastic welder, box wrench, crescent wrench, channel locks, electric drills, pipe wrench, resonator, screwdriver, socket wrench.
β€’ Supervises the installation, replacement or repair of Lead Service Lines, Water main, and water service.
β€’ Reviews and approves time and attendance reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience: Five years’ experience as a plumber, two of which should be in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. License Requirement: Licensed by the City of Chicago Board of Plumbing Examiners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
β€’ Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of plumbing.
β€’ Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the plumbing trade. Considerable knowledge of mathematics as applied to the plumbing trade.
β€’ Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the plumbing trade.
β€’ Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and broken parts.
β€’ Ability to work with plumbing materials and accessories.
β€’ Ability to communicate effectively with public, park staff and other trades people.
β€’ Ability to supervise employees.
