Job Description
Summary

Join the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY as a WELDER, serving various work sites including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

Duties

As a Welder, you will:
• Identify and associate metals, alloys, and filler metal using color code and standard markings.
• Produce high-quality welds that meet acceptance standards for NDT, strength, tightness, or pressure tests.
• Utilize various test methods for metals and alloys.
• Inspect completed welding projects to ensure quality and safety.
• Operate different welding machines and processes to weld piping parts or structures.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Participation in the direct deposit pay program is required.
• New employees will pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
• Retired military members must comply with the appointment provisions within 180 days following retirement.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• This may be a bargaining unit position.
• Successful completion of a pre-appointment physical examination may be required.
• Obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
• This is a Drug Testing position; pre-employment drug test is mandatory.
• Personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, goggles, etc.) must be worn during work shifts.
• Work may occur in hazardous environments with physical and chemical agents present.
• Exposure to high noise levels may occur.
• Travel may be required, including CONUS and OCONUS, and sometimes to remote locations.
• Work hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the position. There is a screen-out element based on the ABILITY TO WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, which is fundamental for eligibility.

Experience should reflect the ability to perform duties effectively regardless of time spent in the role. Additional experience in volunteer work is also considered valuable.
