Overview:
Performs work involving security of buildings, grounds and parking lots in and around assigned locations under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Secretary of State; observes and reports unusual, illegal, suspicious activities; provides information and assistance to the general public; signs employees and/or visitors in and out of assigned buildings and locations; monitors outgoing and incoming packages, freight and equipment; regulates assigned parking lots; may serve as shift leader; on an as needed basis serves as added security for rallies, demonstrations, events, etc.; locks and secures buildings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
β€’ Routinely patrols on foot, the interior and exterior of assigned locations to ensure their integrity during both regular business hours and after hours; observes and reports unusual, illegal and suspicious activities in and around assigned locations to appropriate personnel; limits access to the locations after regular business hours.
β€’ Provides information and assistance to visitors and the general public; assists physically challenged individuals entering and exiting the buildings, grounds, and parking lots in and around assigned locations under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Secretary of State.
β€’ Signs employees and/or visitors in and out of assigned buildings and locations, checking for employee identification badges and/or proper identification.
β€’ Monitors outgoing and incoming packages, freight and equipment to ensure proper authority has been given to deliver and/or remove and to ensure the safety of location.
β€’ Regulates assigned parking lots ensuring parking by qualified vehicles and the safety of the vehicles and their drivers; issues warning citations to vehicle owners for unauthorized parking.
β€’ May serve as shift leader for assigned locations, plans, organizes, and directs a shift of employees engaged in providing security; determines work schedules and priorities; disseminates information regarding operational procedures.
β€’ On an as needed basis, serves as added security for rallies, demonstrations, events, etc. being held in or around assigned locations, to ensure the safety and proper conduct of participates.
β€’ Locks and secures buildings; may unlock office doors or open buildings for authorized personnel or at the beginning of a workday.
β€’ Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school AND one (1) year experience in the security field. Sixty (60) semester hours of college credit, with Criminal Justice or related coursework, may be substituted for the experience requirement.

β€’ Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois drivers’ license as required by individual positions within the class.
β€’ Requires ability to lift and carry items weighing 90 pounds plus and push/pull items weighing 0 to 50 pounds.
