Job Description
This is the entry level of the journeyman series in the plumbing trade. Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing equipment and fixtures including hot and cold water lines, hot water heaters and tanks, drinking fountains, showers, toilets, urinals and sinks. Work involves assignments of increasing scope and complexity as the employee gains familiarity with the work environment. Opens and clears clogged drains, opens frozen water lines during the winter months, and repairs water mains. Essential Functions - Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing equipment and fixtures; makes sketches and drawings and works from blueprints in installing, connecting and repairing fixtures and equipment such as hot water heaters and tanks, constant pressure systems and controls, showers, toilets, urinals and sinks. - Breaks up and digs up pavements and streets and breaks through walls or ceilings in order to run or repair hot and cold water lines or gas lines. - Installs or repairs drinking fountains inside and outside school buildings; repairs and replaces valves; opens frozen water lines during winter months; opens and cleans clogged drains, including roof drains, rain conductors and yard drains; installs, repairs and/or replaces back flow preventers and water mains; repairs leaking or broken pipes; repairs flush lines to toilets; repairs and replaces hot and cold water spigots; repairs or removes sump pumps. - Oversees the work of trainees in the trade. - Adheres to established safety procedures and the City of Philadelphia plumbing code. - May estimate, order and transport necessary materials to complete work order(s) at assigned location.
