Position Summary

Use of MIG welders and flame-cutting equipment to build power plant components as specified by layouts, work orders, or blueprints.

Reports To: Fabrication Manager

Work Location: 6246 McHard Road, Houston, TX 77053

Please note this is full-time position 100% based at our facility in Houston, TX. As such, there are no travel requirements or per diems.
Position Responsibilities
β€’ Review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders in preparation for welding or cutting metal components.
β€’ Position work pieces and clamps together or assembles in jigs or fixtures.
β€’ Ignites torch or starts power supply and strikes arc.
β€’ Selects and inserts electrode or gas nozzle into holder and connects hoses and cables to obtain gas or specified amperage, voltage, or polarity.
β€’ Connects and turns regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure to obtain desired flame on torch equipment.
β€’ Selects and installs proper consumables according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of metal.
β€’ Guides electrodes or torch along weld line at specified speed and angle to weld, melt, cut, or trim metal.
β€’ Welds metal parts or components together, using MIG welding equipment.
β€’ Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts, using welding equipment.
β€’ Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead position.
β€’ Inspects finished work piece for conformance to specifications.
Required Qualifications
β€’ High school diploma/GED and/or 2 years of experience with the basic GMAW (gas metal arc welding), FCAW (flux cored arc welding).
β€’ All potential new hires for this level must pass a weld test for FCAW in the 2G and 3G configurations (horizontal and vertical up).
β€’ All plate weld coupons are subject to CWI inspection, and bend test before any applicant can be hired. All level 2 coupons are standard carbon A-36 plate Β½ inch in thickness in all positions.
β€’ US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
β€’ Candidate must also pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Desired Qualifications
β€’ Must have basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) knowledge.
β€’ Must know how to effectively use the following measuring devices and basic tools: tape measure, micrometer, calipers, square, level, angle finder, and weld gauges.
β€’ Must have ability to operate forklift safely.
β€’ Must have the ability and knowledge to rig properly and safely run an overhead style crane.
β€’ Machine list should include but not be limited to Miller and/or Lincoln power sources.
β€’ This position requires the knowledge of amperage, wire speed, and consumable replacement from liners, gas tips, and wire spool replacement on all the specified types of welding, while still maintaining cost effectiveness.
