Description

Purpose of Role:

The Assistant Manager, Welding is responsiblefor managing, developing, and governing Welding Procedure Specifications(WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for shipbuilding, ship repair, and offshore marine structures.

This role also serves as a Qualified Welding Trainer, ensuring welders, supervisors, and inspectors are competently trained and certified in accordance with classification society rules, and international welding standards.

Responsibilities

Learning Needs Analysis
• Conduct learning needs analysis surveys to gather feedback from relevant stakeholders

Trainer-Welding
• Conduct classroom and hands on practical training in marine welding processes
• Deliver training aligned to approved curricula and industry standards
• Demonstrate correct welding techniques, equipment usage, joint preparation, and defects prevention

Assessor
• Assess trainees practical welding skills and theoretical knowledge in accordance with assessment criteria
• Prepare trainees for relevant industry certifications (e.g., Welding Qualification Test or classification society requirements)
• Maintain accurate assessment records, training logs, and competency report

Develop Training Materials
• Support development, review, and updating of training materials to reflect industry best practices and technological advancements.

Program Administrator
• Plan, schedule and organize training programs
• Manage the overall maintenance of the training room /location
• Maintain training records and documents
• Monitor and track training numbers and progress
• Prepare for Internal and external audits
• Provide feedback to management on training and program development matters

WPS / PQR Management
• Develop, qualify, review, and control WPS and PQR for shipbuilding, ship repair and marine conversions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable rules and standards such as:
• Class Societies (ABS, BV, DNV)
• International Codes (AWS, ASME, ISO, EN)
• Plan and witness welding procedure qualification tests
• Maintain full traceability and validity of all WPS / PQR documentation

Requirements
• Possess Degree or Diploma in Engineering related fields
• 6–10years of welding engineering experience in Shipyards or Offshore Marine fabrication related
• Recognized Welding certifications in marine/offshore welding disciplines is advantageous
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in preparing and interpreting WPS and PQR documentations
• Possess American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) Certification or equivalent is advantageous
• Possess ACTA or ACLP Certifications is advantageous but not a must
• Enjoy conducting stand up training and various forms of involvements in skills development

• Location: Benoi Road (Island-wide transport provided)
