Restaurant jobs in Kuwait aren't always what you expect
From what I've seen hanging around the scene here, restaurant work pops up fast but finding the right spot takes some hustle. Pay can be decent if you land the right place, though hours run long most days. Thing is, expats fill a ton of these roles and locals too, especially in busy areas like Salmiya or the malls.
How do people even land these gigs?
Walk-ins still work in smaller spots. Big chains though, they want you to apply online or through agents. I've known guys who just showed up with their CV and got hired same day. Not every time but it happens. Facebook groups and Instagram pages for Kuwait jobs get posted daily too. Check those regularly.
Experience helps a lot. If you've done waiter work before or kitchen stuff back home, mention it straight. They often ask for basic English at least, sometimes Arabic depending on the crowd.
Pay and hours - the real talk
Entry level waiter jobs might start around 200-300 KD. Cooks or supervisors pull more, like 400 plus. Tips make a difference in some places, especially the fancier ones. But don't count on them every shift.
Shifts? Expect split ones or late nights. Weekends are packed so days off rotate. It's not nine to five stuff. One friend switched to a hotel restaurant and said the benefits made up for the crazy schedule though.

What about visas and paperwork?
Most restaurants handle the visa once they hire you. You show up with your documents and they sort the rest. Just make sure your passport is valid for a while. Some places need a medical check too. It's straightforward but can take a couple weeks.
Honestly speaking, smaller family-run places might be flexible on experience. Chains want references and proof you can handle busy rushes.
Best areas to hunt for work
Kuwait City has lots near the souks. Hawally and Farwaniya got plenty of casual spots. If you want something upscale, look at restaurants inside the big malls or along the waterfront. Competition gets stiff there.
Driving license helps if the job involves deliveries or if you need to get around fast between locations. Not always required but handy.
And don't forget food safety certs. Some managers ask for them now, especially after all the health rules tightened up.
