Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires a valid work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program with an approved LMIA for NOC 72106 welders. Applicants need a minimum of two years paid experience in the last five years plus Red Seal endorsement. Processing takes 8 weeks for 80 percent of applications submitted after April 2026.

Employment and Social Development Canada lists completion of a 2-3 year apprenticeship or Red Seal certification as mandatory for NOC 72106 welder positions. Candidates must hold a high school diploma plus 6,000 hours of documented on-the-job training by December 2026. Provincial trade authorities issue the certificate of qualification after passing the Red Seal exam.

Applicants must submit a valid passport, Red Seal certificate, language test results at CLB 5 or higher, and proof of funds equaling CAD 13,757 for a single applicant as of 2026.
