As per the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, the general minimum wage in Ontario is CAD 17.20 per hour as of January 1 2026 for welders in non-unionized roles. This rate applies uniformly across all sectors without provincial variations for this occupation.
Q What work permit requirements apply for international welders moving to Canada in 2026?
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada requires a valid work permit under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program with an approved LMIA for NOC 72106 welders. Applicants need a minimum of two years paid experience in the last five years plus Red Seal endorsement. Processing takes 8 weeks for 80 percent of applications submitted after April 2026.
Q What education and certification are needed to qualify as a welder in Canada?
Employment and Social Development Canada lists completion of a 2-3 year apprenticeship or Red Seal certification as mandatory for NOC 72106 welder positions.
