Job Description
Purpose:

To provide professional Plumbing Services to the York Community.

Education:

Current Ontario Certificate of Qualifications as a Plumber is required. Gas fitter license is an asset. Successful applicant must obtain a W.H.M.I.S. certificate prior to the completion of the probationary or trial period. Must hold a valid Ontario drivers license (Class 'G') in good standing

Experience:

Minimum 5 years' recent directly related experience within the plumbing trade. experience in both general construction and maintenance of commercial-type installations preferred. Experience in testing, relocating, repairing and servicing backflow prevention devices is preferred

Skills:

Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures and methods as well as the proper materials, tools and equipment utilized in plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance work. Demonstrated ability to trace the causes of problems on water well, sewer lift, plumbing and irrigation problems and subsequently make repairs. Good oral communication skills and ability to read and comprehend written instructions. Ability to lift heavy equipment (e.g. plumbing fixtures) and climb ladders and scaffolds. Good manual dexterity. Must possess the ability to work cooperatively with other Maintenance Trades Group, contractors and community members. Basic computer skills. Knowledge of water distribution and waste water disposal in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Knowledge of domestic hot and cold water systems and low pressure steam. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics of piping diagrams. Knowledge of all relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures for installation and maintenance. Knowledge of safe work practices including methods, procedures and equipment use
