About the role

RAM Elevators and Lifts Inc is seeking a skilled and experienced Second or Third Year Welder to join our dynamic team. The Apprentice Welder will play a crucial role in contributing to various welding projects, ensuring high-quality workmanship, and adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities
• Read and interpret blueprints in a bid to understand work specifications.
• Take orders from journeymen to operate manual and semi-automatic welding and cutting equipment.
• Conduct visual inspections of completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
• Identify and rectify any defects or discrepancies in the welding process.
• Set up and operate hand and power tools particular to the welding trade.
• Conduct routine checks and minor maintenance tasks on welding machines and related tools.
• Prepare all material surfaces that need to weld and ensure that there is no rust, dust, or damage.
• Keep track of materials, tools, and equipment needed for welding projects and inform supervisor in case of shortages.
• Properly and consistently document and follow established procedures.
• Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, must have own helmet and steel toe boots.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / skills
• Minimum 1st Year apprentice status or equivalent experience in welding.
• Demonstrable high proficiency in English is required
• Ability to pass CWB weld tests
• Valid welding certification (e.g., CWB) is an asset.
• Basic or Intermediate skills in MIG welding technique.
• Strong understanding of welding processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Ability to learn new things and adjust job tasks as required.
• Ability to work with jigs and free-hand fabrication.
• Knowledge in the use of measuring tools- tape measure, calipers etc.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail and precision in work.

Working Conditions
• Hazards associated with working in a fabrication shop (i.e. noise, machinery, smoke)

Physical Requirements
• Must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: welding for extended periods of time and extensive reading.
• The incumbent is also required to stand for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for lifting (up to 50lbs) and handling of heavy materials.
