Most of our solutions are related to Energy Transition and carbon reduction industries. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting at least a 2nd/3rd year Apprentice Welder to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). ). In this role, you will have the opportunity to put your training into practice under the guidance of experienced welders. You’ll play a crucial role in fabricating and installing Structural Steel for compression and process equipment, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and further honing your skills. This position offers a supportive learning environment where you can continue your professional development. If you are selected for an interview, please be prepared to complete a Weld Test on the day of your interview.
Shift Schedule - 4:30-2:20 (4 days/week,10 hours/day). Overtime is as required.QUALIFICATIONS:

β€’ 2-3 year’s experience as a welder in a relevant department, demonstrating proficiency in fabrication techniques would be considered an asset.
β€’ Enrollment in or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, in welding.
β€’ CWB Qualifications in SMAW or FCAW/MCAW are preferred.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

WELDING AND QUALITY ASSURANCE
Interpretation of Specifications
β€’ Read and interpret welding process specifications, including weld procedure specifications (WPS), provided in project documentation.
β€’ Ensure clear understanding of welding symbols, geometric tolerances, and special instructions embedded within project plans and blueprints.
β€’ Learn a wide range of metals, alloys, and welding materials commonly utilized in welding applications, including carbon steel and occasionally stainless steel.
Installation
β€’ Assist in preparing materials for welding by performing tasks such as cleaning, preheating, and applying necessary treatments, as specified in the WPS. Confirm that materials are in optimal condition to facilitate successful welds
β€’ Maintain clean and deburred edges to promote high-quality welds.
β€’ Recognize and address deviations from specified tolerances to achieve precise alignment and fit.
Proficient Welding Processes & Techniques
β€’ Assist experienced welders in executing welding tasks utilizing a variety of processes, including but not limited to SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), and Metal-Core (MCAW)
β€’ Adapt to the specific welding process required for each project based on material type, thickness, and project specifications.
β€’ Produce welds that consistently meet or exceed project specifications, quality standards, and industry codes.
β€’ Assist with positioners to roll well spools on various projects
β€’ Ensure all welding is completed in a manner to prevent distortion or shrinkage.
Tools & Maintenance
β€’ Use various hand and power tools and equipment safely while abiding by the health & safety rules/regulations
β€’ Maintain and organize tools and equipment used in welding activities, performing routine inspections and repairs as needed.
β€’ Maintaining a clean and organized work area, and helping others maintain their work areas
Compliance
β€’ Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
β€’ Assist in conducting quality inspections to verify that fabricated and installed systems meet the required specifications and standards, identifying and addressing any deviations or defects.
β€’ Actively participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge of compression and process equipment, welding techniques, and safety practices.
