Job Description
We have an opening for a Qualified Plumber at a well-established plumbing firm in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape. This position is suitable for a recently qualified plumber or one nearing the end of apprenticeship seeking further hands-on experience under senior guidance. A structured mentorship programme and registration support is provided.

Responsibilities
Installation & Site Execution
• Cut, thread, bend, and join copper, galvanised steel, HDPE, and PVC pipes using soldering, brazing, compression, crimping, and solvent welding techniques, pressure-testing all joints before concealing pipework in walls, floors, or underground.
• Read and interpret plumbing drawings, isometric diagrams, specifications, and bills of quantities to determine pipe routes, fixture positions, material take-offs, and the correct sequence of installation activities before commencing any work on site.
• Install, connect, and commission water supply, drainage, sanitary fixtures, geysers, and hot water reticulation systems in accordance with SANS 10252 and SANS 10254 plumbing standards and approved building plans for residential and commercial projects.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all plumbing work is carried out in strict compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, including the use of required PPE, safe excavation practices, and confined space entry procedures when working in manholes and underground chambers.
• Issue Certificates of Compliance for plumbing installations upon completion of work, confirming that all systems have been pressure-tested, meet SANS 10254 requirements, and are safe for connection to municipal water supply and drainage networks before final sign-off.
• Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area by cordoning off work zones, displaying appropriate warning signage, containing water spills and debris during repairs, and thoroughly cleaning up after completing work at client premises to leave the site safe and presentable.
Team Supervision & Quality Control
• Conduct quality inspections of all plumbing installations before backfilling trenches or closing up walls and ceilings, checking pipe gradients, support spacing, joint integrity, and pressure test results to ensure each installation meets the required standard and is free of defects.
• Review completed job cards and site reports to verify that all work has been carried out to specification, materials used are correctly recorded, and the installation is ready for handover and client sign-off with a fully compliant Certificate of Compliance.
• Supervise and guide junior plumbers and general assistants on site by allocating tasks clearly, demonstrating correct installation and repair techniques, monitoring workmanship against quality standards, and correcting errors before pipework is permanently concealed.

Requirements
• Proficiency in pipe cutting and threading, soldering, brazing, and use of push-fit and compression fittings.
• Registration with the Plumbing Industry Registration Board or eligibility to register for qualified plumber positions.
• For drainage specialist roles, experience with high-pressure jetting equipment and CCTV drain inspection cameras.
• Thorough knowledge of SANS plumbing codes and regulations governing water supply and drainage installations.
• A minimum of three to four years of experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, or construction environments.
• A valid driver's licence is essential for roles requiring travel to multiple sites or call-out response.
