Job Description
Our client, a reputable transportation and logistics company, is looking for dedicated and experienced Heavy Vehicle Drivers to join their fleet operating out of Polokwane, Limpopo . This position focuses on long-haul routes, requiring extensive travel and the ability to manage time effectively to ensure timely and safe delivery of goods across various regions. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy-duty trucks, maintaining vehicle integrity, and adhering strictly to all traffic laws and company policies.

Responsibilities:
Operate heavy vehicles, such as semi-trailers and articulated trucks, for long-distance transportation of goods. Ensure the safe and timely delivery of products to designated destinations. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects or issues to management immediately. Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of the vehicle, both internally and externally. Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and company safety policies at all times. Plan and execute routes efficiently, considering factors like traffic, weather, and delivery schedules. Manage loading and unloading procedures as required, ensuring goods are secured properly. Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents encountered. Provide excellent customer service during deliveries, representing the company professionally. Report any mechanical issues or maintenance needs promptly to the fleet manager. Ensure compliance with all transportation documentation, including delivery notes and permits. Communicate effectively with dispatch and operations teams regarding route status and any delays.
Qualifications:
Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP) for heavy vehicles, including Code 14 license. Proven experience as a heavy vehicle driver, with a minimum of 3-5 years in long-haul transportation. Excellent driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents. Thorough knowledge of South African road networks and traffic regulations. Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance checks and report issues accurately. Strong understanding of safe driving practices and load security procedures. Good physical condition to handle loading/unloading tasks and long hours of driving. Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility. Effective communication skills for interacting with dispatch and customers. Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as per route requirements. Must possess a valid South African driver's license and relevant permits. A defensive driving course certification is advantageous.
