Job Description
KEY PERFORMANCE AREA
• Maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems and related fixtures and components.
• Repair piping of various sizes and types.
• Check safety equipment and replace components such as washers, gaskets, and filters.
• Inspect, repair, and replace pumps, valves, and boiler systems.
• Monitor work performed by external contractors to ensure compliance with Plumbing Code requirements and report to the Supervisor.
• Install supports and hangers for pipes, fixtures, and equipment.
• Assemble and install valves and fittings.\Install, repair, and maintain water treatment equipment, piping, and controls.
• Install, repair, and maintain water heaters and water conditioning systems.
• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, appliances, and trim.
• Test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks.
• Ensure all installations, repairs, and maintenance comply with applicable codes and environmental protection requirements.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Research, purchase, and maintain inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
• Respond to routine and emergency repair calls.
• Train and direct the work of other classified staff within the department.
• Assist and provide backup support to other Facilities employees as required.
• Keep accurate records of time spent on jobs and materials used.
• Diagnose plumbing issues and carry out necessary repairs.\Perform routine maintenance on plumbing systems to prevent breakdowns and emergencies.
• Coordinate with general contractors and other building professionals on job sites.
• Interpret and follow blueprints and building plans.
• Prepare budgets and estimate costs for work.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Grade 12
• NQF Level 4 certificate
• Trade Artisan _ Plumbing
• Completed Apprenticeship
• 5 years post-qualification experience within the artisan trade.
• Relevant working experience in building maintenance and plumbing.
• Experience of working in a healthcare/ hospital environment advantageous.
• Must have a valid drivers license.
• Must be available to work on standby and attend callouts as required.
