Job Summary:

The Retail Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the retail store, its employees, and customers. This includes preventing theft, monitoring activities, and responding to emergencies. The officer will provide a visible deterrent to crime and maintain a secure environment.

Responsibilities:
• Monitor CCTV cameras and in-store activity to detect and prevent theft or suspicious behaviour.
• Conduct regular patrols of the store, both inside and outside, to ensure a secure environment.
• Identify and apprehend shoplifters or individuals committing fraudulent activities.
• Work closely with store management and law enforcement to report and document incidents of theft or other security breaches.
• Provide a safe and secure environment for customers and staff.
• Respond promptly to any emergencies, such as medical incidents or altercations, and provide assistance as needed.
• Monitor and control access to restricted areas within the store.
• Verify the identification of individuals entering and exiting the premises.
• Prepare detailed and accurate reports on incidents and activities observed during shifts.
• Maintain records of incidents, including thefts, damages, and any other security-related issues.
• Assist customers with inquiries and provide directions within the store.
• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanour while interacting with customers and staff.
• Operate and maintain security equipment, including CCTV systems, alarms, and radios.
• Conduct regular checks and ensure all equipment is in proper working order.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and regulations related to security and safety.
• Stay updated on security best practices and legal requirements.

Minimum requirements:
• Grade C – PSIRA registered and up-to-date
• Grade 10 or above
• Excellent communication skills in English – verbal and written
• Knowledge and understanding of the search procedure
• Must be neat and presentable
• Person must be residing in or close to the specified areas
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred.
