Job Description
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Logistics Operations Manager to oversee and optimize their extensive supply chain operations in Pretoria, Gauteng, ZA . This role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods, from procurement to final delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of warehousing, transportation management, inventory control, and supply chain optimization strategies. You will be responsible for leading a team of logistics professionals, implementing best practices, and leveraging technology to enhance operational performance and customer satisfaction. Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, order picking, packing, and shipping, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Develop and implement effective transportation strategies to optimize delivery routes, reduce costs, and improve transit times. Oversee inventory management processes, ensuring accurate stock levels, minimizing stock-outs, and reducing carrying costs. Lead and motivate a team of warehouse staff, supervisors, and dispatchers, providing training, performance management, and development opportunities. Implement and maintain robust safety procedures and protocols within the warehouse and transportation operations, ensuring compliance with all regulations. Utilize Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to track inventory, manage orders, and monitor operational performance. Analyze operational data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions. Collaborate with procurement, sales, and customer service departments to ensure seamless coordination of supply chain activities. Negotiate and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and suppliers. Develop and manage departmental budgets, controlling operational expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Continuously evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to enhance logistics operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Proven experience in managing large-scale warehouse operations and multi-modal transportation. Strong knowledge of WMS and TMS software, with proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools. Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams. Excellent understanding of inventory management principles and practices. Strong negotiation skills and experience managing vendor relationships. Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies is highly desirable. Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.
