Job Description
Job Summary:

The position of Security Guard is responsible for all aspects of the Security and Safety in the hospital. Performs a variety of duties and rounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry to assure the personal safety of employees, patients, visitors, and physicians. Actively and consistently contributes to operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:
• Performs daily duties to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and assure the personal safety of employees, patients, and visitors.
• Performs building and ground patrols to assure the safety of the hospital.
• Investigate any thefts, disturbance, suspicious activity.
• Facility access control includes identification of individuals entering the facilities, controlling access to and from sensitive areas, locking, unlocking, and restricting traffic at various times. To activate and deactivate anti-theft alarm system. To report crime and have open communication with local law enforcement.
• Assists staff with patients, in interventions of disruption, including those on 5150 holds, by visitors and by other staff members
• Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
• Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members.
• Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
• Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter.
• Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
• Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
• Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
• Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience:
• Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
• Six (6) months to one (1) year of current experience in an acute hospital setting as a security guard, preferred.
