Structural Steel Welder | Jobsite are a 70 mile radius of Quakertown, PA

General Summary of Position

The Structural Steel Welder position is expected to produce welds that support the installation of exterior and interior wall panels for commercial buildings.

Essential (Core Competencies) Duties
• Perform welds using stick and mig processes in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
• Current AWS D1. 1 SMAW 3G and AWS D1. 1 SMAW 4G certifications, AWS D1. 5 SMAW 3G and 4G preferred.
• Maneuver units into position for installation and anchor the units.
• Fabricate or alter parts using shears, hammers, punches, or drills.
• Assist foreman with proper layout for work to be put in place.
• Accurately measure and read height, width, length, and other proportions with a tape measure
• Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and lasers to ensure everything is level and secure.
• Work at heights with several elevated platforms.
• Keep work area clean and productive.
• Always exercise the proper use of PPE.
• Set up and safely use company equipment.
• Maintain welding certification through maintenance logs and supervisor observation.

Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Participation in a secondary or post-secondary trade curriculum.
• 1+ year experience with stick welding.
• Field carpentry experience preferred.
• Knowledge and understanding of construction safety devices and PPE.

Work Environment

Field Welders work indoors and outdoors on many types of construction projects, with varying degrees of exposure to the elements. This may include extreme heat (>85 degrees for longer than one hour of exposure), extreme cold (<32 degrees for longer than one hour of exposure), excessive humidity and noise. Some hazards may be present such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, toxic/caustic chemicals, and slippery/uneven walking surfaces.

Physical Requirements
• Due to the physical nature of the position, employee must have full dexterity of their hands and arms.
• Employee must be able to see objects close and far away.
• At times, multiple sounds can be heard as employee is working on job, employee must have the ability to focus on the sound in particular that is associated with the task they are completing. Employees with any sort of hearing impairment would not be considered fit for duty to perform this position.
• Due to the safety sensitive nature of the position, at all times, employee must be fit for duty and not report to work under the influence of a mind altering or performance altering substance. At no time, should employee be found to be possessing or using a mind or performance altering substance while performing any Company task.
