Compensation Range
The base pay scale for this position is $44.36 - $44.36. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Position Overview

Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking a skilled Plumber to support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of plumbing systems across our facilities. This role plays an essential part in ensuring a safe, compliant, and patient-centered environment by maintaining infrastructure that supports clinical care, research, and administrative operations.

What You'll Do
• Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including domestic water, drains, and waste systems
• Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair plumbing equipment and fixtures throughout hospital facilities
• Support building systems such as heating components, piping, and related infrastructure
• Maintain standpipe, sprinkler, and specialized hospital plumbing systems
• Respond to urgent and emergency repair calls as needed
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
• Document work and service updates using electronic systems or handheld devices
• Maintain safe, clean workspaces and follow all hospital safety protocols
• Partner with engineering, facilities, and clinical teams to support uninterrupted operations

What You'll Need

Required:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum of 3 years of plumbing experience
• Ability to work flexible shifts as needed, including weekends or on-call
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently

Preferred:
• Experience in a hospital, healthcare, or large institutional environment
• Knowledge of medical gas, oxygen, and suction systems
• Familiarity with fire/life safety systems and compliance standards

Certifications (required or obtained after hire):
• Fire safety / Fireguard certification
• Relevant plumbing, sprinkler, or flammable gas safety certifications
• Additional technical certifications as required for hospital operations

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• Work in mechanical rooms, patient care areas, and building infrastructure spaces
• Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and movement throughout facilities
• Exposure to mechanical, electrical, temperature, and environmental conditions as part of essential job duties
