As per the Ministry of Labour, the minimum wage for security guards in Bangkok is ฿372 per day as of 1 January 2026. Overtime after 8 hours must be paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate, equaling ฿69.75 per hour. Employers must also provide a written contract stating this rate.

As per the Department of Employment, foreign nationals require a work permit under Section 9 of the Alien Work Permit Act before starting security guard duties in 2026. The permit costs ฿3,000 for one year and must be applied for at a provincial labour office with a valid non-immigrant visa. Security guard roles are restricted for foreigners under the 1979 Royal Decree on Occupations.

As per the Ministry of Labour, applicants need at least a Grade 6 education certificate and must complete a 42-hour security guard training course approved by the Department of Provincial Administration. The license fee is ฿500 and must be renewed every 3 years with a medical certificate dated within 30 days of application.

As per the Department of Employment, applicants must submit a national ID card, house registration, education certificate, and 2x2 photo along with the completed application form at the provincial labour office. Processing takes 7 working days and requires payment of a ฿100 application fee.
