πŸ“Œ Position Overview
The Welding Engineer will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and overseeing welding processes in a steel casting foundry environment. This role ensures that welded joints meet metallurgical, mechanical, and quality standards while supporting production efficiency, compliance, and customer requirements.
🎯 Key Responsibilities
- Process Development & Optimization
- Design, qualify, and implement welding procedures for cast steel components (including super duplex and critical alloys).
- Select appropriate welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW) based on material and application.
- Optimize parameters to minimize defects such as porosity, cracking, or distortion.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure welding processes comply with international standards (ASME, AWS, ISO, ASTM).
- Conduct procedure qualification records (PQRs) and welder performance qualification tests (WPQTs).
- Review and approve welding documentation, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and inspection reports.
- Metallurgical & Technical Support
- Provide guidance on preheat, interpass temperature, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT).
- Collaborate with metallurgists to analyze weld microstructures and mechanical properties.
- Troubleshoot welding-related defects and recommend corrective actions.
- Production & Shop-Floor Support
- Train and mentor welders on best practices and safety.
- Support foundry operations in repair welding of castings, including defect removal and re-welding.
- Coordinate with machining, heat treatment, and inspection teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Customer & Project Interface
- Liaise with clients and third-party inspectors for welding approvals and audits.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for customer submissions.
- Support project managers in meeting delivery timelines and quality commitments.
