Job Summary

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all welding activities within the project scope. This includes managing the welding team, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring timely completion of welding tasks in line with project schedules and budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, sKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ATTITUDE:

Minimum Qualifications: ITI / Diploma / Graduate in Mechanical or Welding Technology

Minimum Experience: 5 years post-qualification experience in welding operations within fabrication and construction projects

Job-Specific Skills: Welding process knowledge (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, etc.), Welding procedure specifications (WPS), PQR, and welder qualification, Familiarity with welding codes and standards (ASME, AWS, etc.), Document control and record maintenance

Generic Skills:
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and documentation
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word)

Knowledge:
• ITP, Drawings, Materials, Consumables, Fabrication, Welding, NDE, Inspections, Testing and Commissioning.
• Welding techniques, metallurgy, and inspection methods
• Equipment, materials, and tools used in welding and fabrication
• ERP systems and project documentation

Roles and Responsibilities (DETAILED):

· Ensure compliance with QHSE procedures

Plan daily welding activities in coordination with the construction schedule and project milestones.

· Allocate manpower, tools, and consumables efficiently to meet production targets.

· Coordinate with other discipline supervisors (fabrication, E&I, painting, etc.) to ensure smooth workflow and avoid clashes.

· Supervise all welding operations including structural, piping, and pressure vessel welding.

· Ensure welders follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and that all welding is performed in accordance with project drawings and standards.

· Monitor welding parameters, joint preparation, and interposes cleaning to ensure weld quality.

· Liaise with QA/QC inspectors to ensure timely inspection and clearance of welds.

· Ensure proper implementation of WPS, PQR, and welder qualifications.

· Identify and rectify welding defects and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

· Maintain welding logs, weld maps, and inspection records.

· Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies and safe work practices in all welding activities.

· Conduct toolbox talks and risk assessments specific to welding operations.

· Ensure proper use of PPE and safe handling of welding equipment and gases.

· Monitor and control usage of welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, shielding gases).

· Ensure welding machines and equipment are calibrated, maintained, and in good working condition.

· Recommend procurement of tools and consumables based on project needs.

· Identify skill gaps and recommend training for welders and helpers.

· Mentor junior staff and support the development of assistants into skilled welders.

· Conduct internal assessments and support welder qualification tests.

· Prepare daily progress reports, productivity logs, and non-conformance reports.

· Maintain records of welder performance, repair rates, and rework statistics.

· Provide input for project progress meetings and client updates.

· Suggest improvements in welding techniques, joint designs, and material usage to enhance productivity and reduce costs.

· Participate in root cause analysis for welding-related issues and implement preventive measures.

· Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement within the welding team.
