Job Description
Welder / Fitter – Roles & Responsibilities

1. Drawing Interpretation
• Read and understand fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and instructions
• Identify dimensions, tolerances, and welding details

2. Marking & Fit-Up
• Perform marking, cutting, and edge preparation of materials
• Align and fit components (plates, pipes, structures) as per drawings
• Ensure proper gap, level, and alignment before welding

3. Welding Activities
• Carry out welding (ARC, MIG, TIG as required)
• Follow WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) when applicable
• Ensure strong, defect-free welds with proper penetration

4. Grinding & Finishing
• Perform grinding, chipping, and surface finishing
• Remove slag, spatter, and sharp edges

5. Inspection & Quality Control
• Check fit-up and welding quality against drawings/specifications
• Rectify defects such as misalignment, cracks, or incomplete welds

6. Equipment Handling
• Operate welding machines, gas cutting sets, grinders, and hand tools
• Ensure proper handling and storage of electrodes and consumables

7. Maintenance of Tools
• Maintain tools and welding equipment in good working condition
• Report any faults or damages to supervisor

8. Safety Compliance
• Follow safety procedures and use PPE (helmet, gloves, goggles, etc.)
• Ensure safe handling of gas cylinders and electrical equipment

9. Site Work (if applicable)
• Assist in installation and erection at site
• Ensure proper alignment and fixing during installation

10. Team Coordination
• Work closely with fabricators, supervisors, and engineers
• Report progress, issues, and material requirements
